Italy, the Destination That Never Disappoints

I’ve just returned from a short trip to Italy. Just a couple of days...

When I travel to Italy, I don’t usually stay in expensive hotels. I prefer to look for B&Bs, guesthouses, or something a little more rustic, perhaps an agriturismo. Italy has an incredibly wide and varied range of accommodation to choose from.

Since this trip was a last-minute idea, we were under a bit of time pressure and many hotels were already fully booked. Still, we decided to try our luck with a B&B near Treviso.

We booked accommodation for our family of four. As is often the case in Italian homes, the rooms were spacious: the children slept in one bedroom, while we had another just across a small hallway. We even had a balcony in our room.

It wasn’t really a hotel, but rather a house run by its owner. She was an excellent host and personally took care of breakfast and the cleaning. The rooms were always spotless, and every morning breakfast surprised us with something new.

This type of accommodation is a wonderful alternative for families, or for anyone who wants to experience a little more of Italian culture.

Why Do We Choose Treviso or the Surrounding Area as Our Base?

The answer is simple: its proximity to other places worth visiting, including Venice and Verona.

Venice was already part of our plans, but since we were travelling with children, they obviously wanted some activities for themselves too. So we decided to head to Lake Garda, spend some time at Caneva Aquapark, and then go to the Medieval Times dinner show.

After that, we explored Venice.

One day is far too little time to really get to know the city, so we had to decide what we wanted to do. Since we had already visited Venice before — and will probably return again — this time we decided to do something we hadn’t experienced on our previous visits.

We booked a tour that included a 30-minute gondola ride and a trip to Murano, where we visited a glass factory and watched a live glassmaking demonstration.

The tour was 100% worth it. Everything started on time, everyone was incredibly attentive and, when we arrived in Murano, they were already waiting for us.

A Day to Discover Treviso

We dedicated the last day of our trip to Treviso.

Treviso is a beautiful city, and something many people may not know is that the Benetton story began in this region. Of course, we had to stop by the store. My daughter wanted to buy everything.

After buying a few dresses, we continued exploring the city and visited two museums: the city museum in Treviso and the Museo Diocesano d’Arte Sacra.

Both were worth visiting. The second is very affordable, and they are genuinely grateful when visitors leave a little extra as a donation. They also sell books to help raise funds for the preservation of the museum.

Although, in our case, a book in Italian wasn’t going to be much help when we don’t actually speak the language...

A Last-Minute Trip That Was Completely Worth It

This was a very short trip, organised in record time just a few days before we left.

We decided to drive from Germany, which meant we also had to sort out motorway vignettes and plan a few strategic stops along the way so we could rest.

The adventure was 100% worth it.

We enjoyed every minute. The kids screamed, laughed and played...

We stayed somewhere where every morning began with someone wishing us good morning with a smile. They suggested places for us to visit and shared stories with us. And we did our very best to communicate in our own peculiar mixture of Italian, Spanish and Portuguese...

We came home with full hearts and recharged batteries, ready to continue working on this project: 5XPLR.

Ready to keep offering the best possible service and tailor-made journeys, just the way you want them.

Because a great trip can mean staying in a five-star hotel, or it can mean staying in a simple B&B that may not offer all the comforts of a luxury hotel, but gives you something else instead: that feeling of being at home that, sometimes, is exactly what we need in order to truly rest.

Because in the end, true luxury is being able to travel wherever you want, however you want.
