Traveling solo: what nobody tells you ✈️

Image
Traveling solo: what nobody tells you ✈️ Traveling solo is trending. We see it every day on social media: freedom, perfect photos, sunsets… and that constant feeling of empowerment. But today I want to talk about solo travel from real experience. Mine. No filters. I started traveling alone at a very young age. My first solo trip was shortly after I turned 18: Toronto , then France , and finally Italy . The plan was simple: visit friends and family. But something happened in Toronto that, without me knowing it at the time, shaped the way I travel forever. The person who was supposed to host me had other plans… and was leaving the country. She told me only when I arrived at the airport. She gave me a key, a map… and that was it. Just like that. And even though it was a shock at the moment, it was probably the best thing that could have happened to me. There was no way back. I had to figure things out. I took the map, went to the subway, found the tourist office… and started discovering t...

Malta: Where History Meets the Sea

Image
Let me ask you a simple question: Can you name a place that combines history, culture, beautiful beaches… and over 300 days of sunshine a year? It almost sounds too good to be true. And yet, it exists — on a small island in the Mediterranean: Malta . Malta offers a unique combination that is hard to find in one single destination. You can spend the morning walking through centuries of history, exploring ancient sites and charming cities, and by the afternoon be relaxing by the sea, surrounded by crystal-clear waters. With more than 300 days of sunshine, the island enjoys a warm and pleasant climate for most of the year, with hotter temperatures during the summer months. Whether you are looking for outdoor activities, cultural experiences, or simply a few days to unwind, Malta is well prepared for different types of travelers. The sea is one of its greatest highlights — clear, calm, and ideal for swimming or diving. And if scuba diving is not your thing, you can simply enjoy the b...

✈️ Have you ever been disappointed by a destination? Maybe it wasn’t the destination…

Image
Picture: Sernatur, Chile ✈️ Have you ever been disappointed by a destination? Maybe it wasn’t the destination… Have you ever traveled somewhere with high expectations… only to feel disappointed once you arrived? Like the place just wasn’t what you imagined. Yes, it happens. More often than we think. But here’s an uncomfortable truth: it’s not the destination that disappoints… it’s the lack of information. We live in a world where everything looks perfect. Stunning photos, unreal skies, landscapes that seem almost too good to be true. But what most people don’t show are the real challenges behind those images. And that’s where things start to go wrong. 🌵 The perfect example: San Pedro de Atacama Many people know the Atacama Desert for its breathtaking landscapes: crystal-clear starry skies, intense colors, scenery that feels almost unreal. And yes, all of that is true. It’s an incredible place. But here’s what people don’t usually tell you: San Pedro de Atacama is ...

✈️ How Do We Work? A Simple Weekend Trip to Amsterdam

Image
Many people ask us the same question: how do you actually work? The answer is simple — everything starts with a first video call. 😊 Booking an appointment with us is easy. You can schedule directly through our website at 5xplr.com , or simply send us a message via WhatsApp or Telegram at +49 176 52908410 . From there, we arrange a first conversation to understand what you are looking for. During this initial call, our clients tell us what they need. Some are only looking for hotel reservations, while others want a more complete and curated travel experience. To make it easier to understand how we work, let’s walk through a simple example: a weekend trip to Amsterdam. Living in Europe offers a big advantage — many destinations are just a short trip away. Whether you travel by car, train, or plane, a weekend getaway is always within reach. In this example, we have a couple — two adults — who want to travel from Munich (MUC) to Amsterdam (AMS). They plan to leave on a Friday after...

✈️ The Chaos of Traveling with Kids (And How to Make It Easier)

Image
Traveling with kids can feel like a monumental task, especially when you have more than one and they are all different ages. Diaper changes, bathroom breaks, dragging luggage, keeping everyone entertained… it’s a lot. And while social media is full of tips, hacks, and products that look amazing, in my experience many of them are not practical at all. In fact, they can create more stress than they solve. One of the most important things when traveling with kids is understanding airline rules and regulations. Many airlines offer a bassinet for infants, which is essentially a small crib attached to the wall. However, to use it, you need to be seated in the first row, also known as bulkhead seats, as that is the only area with enough space. Even then, the bassinet can only be used during the flight when the seatbelt sign is off. As soon as it turns on, the baby must be in the adult’s arms. Another option is to book an extra seat for your infant. Yes, you will need to pay for it as a chil...

Emergency Landing: A View from the Other Side of the Counter

Image
A couple of days ago, I read the news about a Delta flight that had to make an emergency landing in Antofagasta, Chile. I also saw the reactions from passengers, and I could clearly hear the frustration. And honestly, I completely understand it — I’ve been there myself. But this time, I would like to share a different perspective. I want to talk about what happens on the other side of the counter. I have worked in the airline industry, and situations like this are far more complex than they seem. In this case, the aircraft landed in Antofagasta, a small regional airport. This already creates a major challenge. There is no Delta ground staff based there, and the airport is not prepared to handle long-haul aircraft like the A350. It usually serves short-haul flights, with limited resources and infrastructure. Many passengers complained that they did not receive food, water, or even hotel accommodation. And again, I understand the frustration. But we also have to ask ourselves a ...

✈️ Is Travel Insurance Really Necessary?

Image
Is travel insurance really necessary? It’s a question many people ask. “I travel all the time and nothing ever happens.” “Why bother if my credit card already covers me?” It sounds reasonable. But is credit card insurance really enough? I’m not going to answer this as a travel advisor. I’m going to answer from personal experience. 💳 Credit Card Insurance: Helpful, But Not Always Enough Travel insurance included with credit cards can be useful. However, many people rely on it without fully understanding the conditions. And that’s where problems can start. In most cases: The trip must be paid with that specific credit card The insurance must be activated before the trip begins Coverage limits can be lower than expected Certain situations may be excluded The same applies when purchasing travel insurance separately: 👉 you need to understand what you’re actually covered for This is why good advice makes a difference. 🌍 Travel Insurance in Europe: What You Should Know Since Europe i...
